@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 05:41 PM) playing dreadnoguht tonight/ super cool game but gots lots of problems qq
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 01:50 PM) thinking of blowing the last of my toy budget this month on dreadnought. kind of a cool looking game
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 01:02 PM) ahhhhh, I should probably try harder to start bdo in japan. as a population they tend not to cheat unlike us americans
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 01:01 PM) :plshelp:
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 11:30 AM) you know it's been a while since you turfned on your laptop when it still has bookmark to AS XD
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 10:41 AM) just depends on what game it is and if they like the game. so maybe they like bdo? they pretty much ignore 99% of bad news for gw2 as it is
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 10:40 AM) ehh massively reports on shit based on what's on reddit this week or what some youtubers posted for profits more and more recently
@  Coyote : (29 April 2016 - 10:06 AM) And I guess Massively hasn't mentioned the server problems because Daum hasn't come out with an official statement. There kind like http://i.imgur.com/Uubhkr8.jpg?fb
@  Coyote : (29 April 2016 - 10:03 AM) Cooldowns are all client side, so people are hacking it to spam skills wit packet injecting. It's an issue in PVP in BDO. Not surprising since Korea requires you to use your citizen ID to access the internet and thus if you get banned, it's forever. Unlike here where you just buy another copy.
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 09:58 AM) but the pve mode is more flexible so looks like it's something we could pick up again
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 09:58 AM) so we stopped playing it
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 09:58 AM) we found it took to long to get pvp mode matches going when we were drinking
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 09:43 AM) and when the bdo servers go to crap, they really get bad. like yesterday I could click on a potion and nothing would happen other than the timer (which is apparently client side) would go off, the number of potions would remain constant, and no healing would be done.
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 09:42 AM) yeah, I have that game. it was fun, although I always go back to the mmo game stuff lol
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 09:28 AM) the devs are very very nice people and the community is very nice as well.
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 09:28 AM) which i wonder if guns of icarus pve mode dlc testing is NDA, i guess i'll find out when i get the key, and if not i can ask i suppose.
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 09:28 AM) tho i haven't been paying as much attention to them lately. the topics lately have been boring and about gmaes i have little to no interest in or if there are games i am interested in i'm under nda or the news about them is pretty boring
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 09:27 AM) haven't seen masively report on that, they report that about other games, but so it goes with them i guess ><
@  Coyote : (29 April 2016 - 09:23 AM) Now if only BDO could fix their server stability. They have been such shit the last two days. Half the channels are unplayable. And so many disconnects. I guess I'll play something else for a while. So bogus though because they did maintenance and the servers were not remotely fixed by it.
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 09:14 AM) we actually extended the number of posts that stay visible as per user demand a few months ago :D
@  NoYou : (29 April 2016 - 09:09 AM) THIS SHOUTBOX IS TOO SHORT
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:40 AM) well gigax gets alot of credit for inventing the RPG, tho maybe too much credit perhaps. yeah
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:40 AM) well think about what dnd is... it's gamification of story telling. story telling was a common thing among hippies and christians and beatniks in teh 50s and 60s.
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:39 AM) everybody always talks about dnd like it was born from the ethos or something
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:39 AM) back in teh heady days of classic forums, when the software was starting to get pretty decent in ways that seemed really strange to us at the time and was often abused when handed to poeple just ot use the features (like mods? reports? :D)
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:39 AM) yeah, that makes sense. I don't think I've ever seen all that stuff lined up as feeding off of each other though...
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:38 AM) we did open source group story tellign on a forum in the early aughts, which i really enjoyed, adn still in touch with the owner of that forum (he's part of my guild's pseudo merge UK boys day time crew).
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:37 AM) there was group story telling in the 60s, and there was various board games and such that tried to gamify/make the story telling more equitable, and then dnd was the first system that worked really well. and there was also kind of similarish table top war gaming to a degree which warhammer is heavily derived from rules/game style wise
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:37 AM) usenet!
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:36 AM) i missed MUDs completely. i didn't have regular internet access until 1998 and i had an active irl social life wher einternet was more about downloading taboo esoteric texts and arguing on tin foil hat brain rot forums about rediculous shit mindlessly
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:36 AM) what was before dnd I wonder? probably something fed into it... hmmmmm
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:35 AM) dnd was a precursor to muds
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:34 AM) well there are peoople even today that use mmo's primarily as glorified chat rooms more than play the game. ask anyone who stays subbed to wow through the content droughts for example.. even during content cycles/expack launches there are people that only log in to chat and disregard new content
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:34 AM) man, don't make me admit to being old!
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:34 AM) I played those back in the day lol
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:33 AM) in some ways yes, in some ways no. a lot of mud/mush/moo stuff was just about communication if you think about it... with added dnd-style fantasy elements
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:33 AM) ofc back then it was like $15 an hour to play on top of your internet usage fees which were also per hour ><
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:33 AM) and hte early internet not quite mmo games like AOL's neverwinter nights. which is where the mmo sub model is derived from more or less
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:32 AM) UO eq1 etc etc were all pretty derivative of the MUD scene the preceded them as well
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:31 AM) I should play something like bdo in korea and look at pvp differences in a more formal way... that would be interesting... but paying for stuff through friends and such is just such a pain to do and I hate doing it lol
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:30 AM) yeah, they do. I mean I'm aware a lot of the korean stuff goes back to lineage, but we had ultima and usually stuff for us goes more back to EQ than that. which is interesting
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:24 AM) well the funny thing with korean mmo pvp is - their player approach it in such a completely differetn way than western players do, which there's some nuances between european and north american players' treatment of those things but alot more similar to each other than how different asian audiences approach it
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:23 AM) and at one point in western mmo design there was a huge amount of variety. but even the guys that designed that variety have chosen to go with the unified formula playbook in their latter products
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:23 AM) yeah, the korean games have more pvp in their backgrounds really for whatever reason
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:23 AM) and agreed they have all progressed
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:23 AM) yeah american mmo's have somewhat differetn design cliches tho
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:22 AM) in an academic way it's all kind of very interesting, but also kind of depressing in terms of some of the ways korean mmo devleoper have chosen to evolve on teh formula over teh past 20~ years QQ
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:22 AM) american games aren't particularly great with avoiding the cliches either lol
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:22 AM) which as someone who's been playing korean mmo's since earlyish lineage 2, and being aware of lineage 1 to an extent, and playing quite a few korean games between l2 and aion, there's a reall sense of progression in design where they all kind of derive from those roots and evolve on the design cliches, many adding a little piece here or there while retaining most of the previous games' iterations on the formula.
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:20 AM) korean games that attempt to break from the mold are often like that, and tend to always include the usual korean mmo design playbook cliches anyway + the newest additions to that playbook.
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:19 AM) I agree with that - like many different hands all had things that HAD to be in the game.
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:19 AM) from what i sampled and what i've heard of the game, there's a general paradigm of incohrency to the game in may ways
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:14 AM) but they also have classic crafting leveling too in terms of make a gazillion of stuff and level... not sure if they really need that. it's like the kitchen sink got thrown in
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:13 AM) it's how you "level" crafting in many ways. because you have workers that live in the houses and collect resources and such for you
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:12 AM) but the housing minigame in BDO sounds pretty cool nonetheless
@  deekayzero : (29 April 2016 - 07:12 AM) city builders are definitely sims in the classic 80s/90s sense but in the aughts the level of realism in sims reached new heights that was pretty rare back then so idk that they are really sims in anything but name now. about on the same level as 4x strategy games like civ imo at this point, for many years now
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:10 AM) I gotta play through more of it though... haven't had loads of time with work and such
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:08 AM) so far this is a good combo of both. it's quite genius so far
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:08 AM) and most sims screw up doing individual things because they're based around the big picture stuff
@  Nobody : (29 April 2016 - 07:07 AM) I think it makes a really good progression and way to do crafting without making it ungodly boring. at least so far... I may become unhappy at some point in it lol
