@  deekayzero : (18 January 2018 - 07:43 PM) https://t.co/yqDUpKgK4K star citizen video to get a sense of the current state of it. i think this video shows it well. and why even tho waiting over a year for this patch to recomend to my friends i won't right now.
@  Nobody : (17 January 2018 - 07:25 AM) oh, and for anybody interested in game dev who wants to relate it to spectre/meltdown - this is a very good article on an xbox 360 bug - https://randomascii....n-the-xbox-360/
@  deekayzero : (15 January 2018 - 08:28 PM) lol
@  Nobody : (15 January 2018 - 10:38 AM) eating your poutine and all that
@  Nobody : (15 January 2018 - 10:37 AM) yeah, I knew what you meant by that. I'm living on your border
@  deekayzero : (14 January 2018 - 09:08 PM) *classic canadian winter
@  Nobody : (14 January 2018 - 05:26 PM) nope not at all
@  deekayzero : (14 January 2018 - 03:24 PM) class canadian winter they said last fall. it really is mostly so far. maybe not quite as snowy. not looking forward to february >>
@  Nobody : (14 January 2018 - 02:27 PM) yeah, we had a couple of days that it was too cold too. been a bad winter for that so far
@  deekayzero : (14 January 2018 - 10:03 AM) last week it was too cold to gete the snow blower running even tho the car did start (a couple days it was too cold ffor the car to start), and had to shovel out the end of the drive way. lower back was sore for a coupledays after that. even tho i took turns with my mom and it was only the end where the plow had left a mini snow bank.
@  deekayzero : (14 January 2018 - 10:02 AM) shoveling hurts my lower back. that and building computers. even with the spare desk this past time. tho it wasnt as bad as before.
@  Nobody : (14 January 2018 - 06:38 AM) yeah, I've been pretty old school and usually dig us out... it's only around 4 times I need to do it a year. but who knows, maybe I will feel old enough that I can't dig us out at some point
@  deekayzero : (13 January 2018 - 08:53 PM) we got a snowblower a few years ago after one of our neighbors blew us out. quite handy to have really. idk how we managed before. >>
@  deekayzero : (13 January 2018 - 08:52 PM) that's nice of him lol
@  Nobody : (13 January 2018 - 10:46 AM) and in good news, my neighbor ploughed me out after we got over a foot of snow last night. I think it's because he got a new heavy duty snow blower and wanted to show it off lol
@  Divinelysian : (13 January 2018 - 09:56 AM) wall street journal*
@  Divinelysian : (13 January 2018 - 09:56 AM) the transcript of the interview of trump by washington post.... /facepalm
@  Nobody : (10 January 2018 - 07:19 PM) cool - fun theme
@  deekayzero : (09 January 2018 - 07:01 PM) https://hearthis.at/...illion-dps/made a new song :D
@  Nobody : (09 January 2018 - 07:50 AM) of course, official servers are full of hacks and such, although tbh I tried an official pve server and there aren't enough people on it for it to really matter
@  Nobody : (09 January 2018 - 07:48 AM) yes on private servers, although no modding yet. you can change things like leveling speed and such for the server tho
@  deekayzero : (08 January 2018 - 09:58 PM) can you do private moddable servers with that game?
@  Nobody : (08 January 2018 - 05:57 PM) yeah, it was insane when I tried it. hopefully it is better now... but honestly I like the fantasy theme of dark and light better. I love dragons
@  deekayzero : (08 January 2018 - 04:59 PM) idk how the tuning is now in ark with taming and raising dinos but when we played it was downright painful.
@  Nobody : (08 January 2018 - 03:54 PM) ruined it for me it was so borked
@  Nobody : (08 January 2018 - 03:54 PM) of course I also liked ark before I went crazy with this stupid dino egg and feeding it
@  Nobody : (08 January 2018 - 03:53 PM) but I WANT!!!!!! youtube.com/watch?v=uCbkEkCdcFQ
@  deekayzero : (07 January 2018 - 03:03 PM) pofc i also don't like hunger meters in general
@  deekayzero : (07 January 2018 - 03:03 PM) i have no interest in survival games with progression beyond scavenging.
@  Nobody : (07 January 2018 - 01:56 PM) and they have flight too. and I can play single player if I really want to
@  Nobody : (07 January 2018 - 01:32 PM) dark and light is snail's rip off of ark, but in a fantasy land. I'm enjoying their concept of biomes because they're just lovely
@  Nobody : (07 January 2018 - 01:31 PM) and for a solo person like me survival is enough of an issue without that stuff
@  Nobody : (07 January 2018 - 01:29 PM) makes it too easy to grief single players and small groups
@  Nobody : (07 January 2018 - 01:28 PM) but I refuse to play a pvp server... staying in the game when you logout is just a bad idea overall imho
@  Nobody : (07 January 2018 - 01:27 PM) In other news, I'm rather enjoying Dark and Light... even though it's Snail Games and i still get the feeling they're run by the chinese mafia
@  deekayzero : (06 January 2018 - 11:40 AM) i think aion has rattled you rbrain templar XD
@  AionTemplar : (06 January 2018 - 06:09 AM) The perfect P2W game would be, subscribe for $13.- a month, you can't pvp unless you pay real money for pvp, you need to pay real money to turn in quests, you need tp pay real money to level up
@  deekayzero : (03 January 2018 - 08:43 PM) ye
@  Nobody : (03 January 2018 - 10:23 AM) at any rate, no slow downs on the forum, but then that's mostly because it's such a light load lol.
@  Nobody : (03 January 2018 - 10:22 AM) you may see the impact in kind of mid-level games made from engines like Unity - they're not as performance optimized to get rid of sys calls
@  Nobody : (03 January 2018 - 10:07 AM) almost makes me want to start a minecraft server on this vm with the forum and see if the forum goes to hell lol
@  Nobody : (03 January 2018 - 10:06 AM) the largest impacts are likely with web server stuff... most of those guys run close to the wire as it is
@  Nobody : (03 January 2018 - 10:05 AM) yeah, the bug itself is pretty crazy... chips within the last 10 years is a pretty large number of... EVERYTHING.
@  deekayzero : (03 January 2018 - 10:03 AM) but both windows and linxu are expected to get improved patches to the fix in short order
@  deekayzero : (03 January 2018 - 10:03 AM) like the linux patch also affects amd users even tho amd cpu's don't have this feature that is potentially exploitable.
@  deekayzero : (03 January 2018 - 10:02 AM) s have tech that potentially works around the shortcoming but yeah both linux and windows will need further patches to fully address things. right now the patches are just getting the exploit patched asap.
@  deekayzero : (03 January 2018 - 10:02 AM) well more recent intel cpu'
@  Nobody : (03 January 2018 - 10:01 AM) a "fix" if done quickly will likely impact everybody
@  Nobody : (03 January 2018 - 10:01 AM) the scary thing - at least with windows it would not surprise me if all processors get hit the same in terms of performance. it sounds like they have to change the architecture of how it works for kernel vs user space and windows has always been bad about that stuff
@  deekayzero : (03 January 2018 - 09:54 AM) and ofc there's a few actually useful comments in the reddit threads breaking down why the amd fandom angle is silly (they are going straight for WILL KILL GAME PERFORMANCE SO BUY RYZEN NOW angle lol which is at best premature.
@  deekayzero : (03 January 2018 - 09:53 AM) had long sometimes trolly discussion of it in irc this morning
@  deekayzero : (03 January 2018 - 09:53 AM) yeah
@  Nobody : (03 January 2018 - 09:53 AM) once things are in memory so the game can self manage then it's all in user space and the bug won't impact that
@  Nobody : (03 January 2018 - 09:48 AM) regarding games - it's for stuff that goes through system calls. My guess is that AAA games are already reducing their system calls to mostly before the game starts (so you'll get longer load screens basically) as most of them are using their own memory management
@  deekayzero : (03 January 2018 - 09:45 AM) nice
@  Nobody : (03 January 2018 - 09:43 AM) so I updated :suave:
@  Nobody : (03 January 2018 - 09:43 AM) unless you update beforehand
@  Nobody : (03 January 2018 - 09:43 AM) there's a mandatory reboot coming for all instances in my area this weekend on aws
@  Nobody : (03 January 2018 - 09:42 AM) yeah, that was why I had to reboot and do maintenance on the site. It had to install the patch
@  deekayzero : (03 January 2018 - 09:36 AM) but so far gaming testing on linux has shown the performance impact is marginal if not iwthin the margin of error that has been done so far (linux got the patch this weekend).
